John Merrill is a New York based guitarist with a career spanning three decades, five continents and hundreds of live appearances.  As both a solo guitarist and as an ensemble member, he's performed at major jazz clubs, international festivals, fine hotels, cruise ships and other music venues in New York and around the globe.
 
Since 2015, John has toured extensively with Professor Cunningham and His Old School.  Led by virtuoso reed man Adrian Cunningham, the spirited ensemble has wowed dancers and listeners in many corners of the world.  The band’s work is well documented on a series of excellent albums.

In conjunction with his performing career, John has worked with many students over the years - both privately and as a faculty member at Rivertown Music in Nyack, New York, and at Florentine School of Music in Manhattan.

He is also proud to have participated for several years in Lincoln Center’s Jazz for Young People program as a member of drummer LaFrae Sci’s quartet.  With this opportunity to play concerts at schools all over New York City, John has been able to share his love and knowledge of music with students of all ages.
